Avatar vs. The Hurt Locker: Too Close to Call

Posted by admin | Casino News | Monday 1 March 2010 11:54 am

At this Sunday night’s Oscars one of the more intriguing elements will be the showdown of Avatar vs. The Hurt Locker in that coveted "Best Picture" category.

Even more of an ironic twist perhaps is that, while James Cameron may be dreaming of another king of the world speech at the Academy Awards this Sunday, the Avatar director faces being usurped from the throne – by his ex-wife.

Sports Interaction, the first online sportsbook licensed and registered in North America, opened its Oscar betting with Avatar as an odds-on favorite at a price of 1.50. There was no way it couldn’t win, according to Sports Interaction betting analyst, Frank Doyle.

Granny Poker Game Broken Up in Idaho

Posted by admin | Casino News | Wednesday 24 February 2010 9:50 am

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) – The odds were stacked against retirees at the Twin Falls Senior Center earlier this month when police arrived to break up a long-running poker game after receiving an anonymous tip.

About 20 seniors had played at the center for more than five years but police say nothing in Idaho law permits gambling at any age.

Residents told The Times-News they paid in $20 to play and the pot was split among the top chip holders.

Seventy-3-year-old Ora Deahl says she thought it was legal because the players donated up to $500 to the senior center each.

Blotter: Missouri may force casino closure

Posted by admin | Casino News | Wednesday 24 February 2010 3:27 am

Officials with the Missouri Gaming Commission may force the President Casino near downtown St. Louis to close its doors by revoking its state gambling license. The revocation would not serve as punishment for violation of any state gaming laws; rather, the state would pull the President’s license because its income streams have not met with expectations. The riverboat casino has under-performed for several months and has not produced the level of tax revenue the state desires.

According to gambling industry observers, the shutdown would be the first state-mandated casino closure in US history due to economic issues.

(Bloomberg) — Las Vegas Sands Corp., the casino company expanding in Macau and Singapore, reported fourth- quarter earnings that met analysts’ estimates as growth in the Chinese gambling market countered a U.S. slump.

Excluding some items, profit totaled 3 cents a share, the Las Vegas-based company said today in a statement, matching the average estimate of 15 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The company posted a net loss of $113.9 million compared with a loss of $136.5 million a year ago.

Macau accounted for about 80 percent of revenue in the quarter, as billionaire founder and Chief Executive Officer Sheldon Adelson invests in Asia to take advantage of record betting in the only part of China where casinos are legal.

TMZ.com has reported that 2008 Playmate of the Year and PokerStars poker player Jayde Nicole is being touted as a full service escort in Las Vegas who will come straight to your hotel room if the price is right.

Nicole knows nothing about this however and she is now suing.

The flyer identifies Jayde’s image as "Tanya".

When TMZ called the escort service, they guaranteed the woman whose image appears on the card would show up at their hotel room.
